Tonight’s Islanders – Flyers game saw a decent effort from the home team, but also had too much of what is becoming a familiar foe as they lost for the 6th straight game. Both teams saw some breaks defensively that should have been goals. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky then good. Good teams seem to be luckier than bad ones and with the Isles mired in a slump, their offense can’t buy a goal when it desperately needs one. The butt end of the stick save near the end of the game is a shining example of a bad break. Make no mistake, the Islanders received their share of breaks during the game to keep it close, but in the end it wasn’t their night, again. The game winner hit Roloson on the mask and stunned him slightly while Alexander Nodl tucked the puck into the net while behind the Islanders defenseman.
The Islanders effort and chances were there. It’s the sort of game that could have easily went either way, yet when you’re on a losing streak the magnitude of the Islanders current streak you feel it is the hand of fate backhand slapping you, again, just to show you who is boss.
The streak is reminding me of the Cream song, “Born Under a Bad Sign”. Sometimes, if it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all. I think the Islanders are all feeling a bit of this song tonight. They entire losing streak hasn’t been a product of bad luck, but it sure has helped prolong it.
I had the pleasure of talking and video taping several members of the New York Islanders Blog Box and media. Dee Karl, Brad Kurtzburg, Gary Harding, and Tony Stabile all made an appearance in my latest video, NYI Hot Topics, 11/6/2010.
